Privacy Policy

Overview

GuardReel is a personal safety recording app for iOS. We believe your recordings are yours alone. GuardReel does not collect, store, or transmit your data to any server we operate. There are no user accounts, no analytics, and no tracking.

Data Collected by the App

GuardReel collects the following data, which is stored only on your device and in your own cloud storage account (if connected):

  • Video and audio recordings: captured using your device's camera and microphone.
  • GPS location: the coordinates where a recording was started (requires your permission).
  • Device information: device model, iOS version, and app version, saved alongside recordings for reference.
  • Recording metadata: timestamps, duration, video quality setting, and chunk count.

Data We Do NOT Collect

  • No email addresses or personal identifiers
  • No user accounts or login credentials
  • No analytics, crash reporting, or usage tracking
  • No advertising identifiers or fingerprinting
  • No data is sent to GuardReel servers: we don't operate any

Cloud Storage

If you choose to connect a cloud storage service, your recordings are uploaded directly from your device to your own account on that service. GuardReel currently supports:

  • Dropbox: via the Dropbox API using OAuth authentication
  • Google Drive: via the Google Drive API using Google Sign-In

GuardReel uses the most restrictive API permissions available. For Google Drive, we use thedrive.file scope, which only allows access to files created by the app: not your other Drive files.

Your cloud storage credentials are managed by the respective service's SDK and are not accessible to GuardReel's code. Authentication tokens are stored securely on your device by the platform's standard credential storage.

Data Control

You have full control over your data at all times. You can delete recordings from your device through the app, and you can delete cloud copies directly from your Dropbox or Google Drive account. Disconnecting a cloud service from GuardReel stops all uploads immediately but does not delete previously uploaded files: you manage those through the cloud service directly.

Location Data

GuardReel requests location permission ("When In Use") to tag recordings with the location where they were started. This is optional: if you deny location permission, the app works normally without GPS tagging. Location data is stored only in the recording's metadata file on your device and (if connected) your cloud storage.

Children's Privacy

GuardReel is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since GuardReel does not collect any personal information from any user, no special provisions are necessary.

GDPR and CCPA

Because GuardReel does not collect, store, or process personal data on any server, most provisions of the GDPR and CCPA/CPRA do not apply. All data remains on your device and in your own cloud account. There is no data to request, export, or delete from us: because we never had it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
