Terms of Service
1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using GuardReel ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.
2. Description of Service
GuardReel is a personal safety recording application for iOS. It allows you to record video and audio using your device's camera and microphone, and optionally back up recordings to your own cloud storage account (Dropbox or Google Drive). GuardReel does not operate any servers and does not store your recordings.
3. Recording Laws and Consent
⚠️ Important: Recording laws vary significantly by jurisdiction. You are solely responsible for understanding and complying with all applicable laws regarding audio and video recording in your location.
- Many jurisdictions require consent from all partiesbeing recorded (known as "two-party consent" or "all-party consent" laws). Others require consent from only one party (the person doing the recording).
- Recording someone without their knowledge or consent may be illegal in your jurisdiction and could result in civil liability or criminal penalties.
- GuardReel is a tool. It does not provide legal advice and makes no representations about the legality of recording in any specific situation or jurisdiction.
- By using GuardReel, you acknowledge that you are solely responsible for determining whether your use of the App complies with applicable laws.
4. Data Ownership
You own all recordings, metadata, and other content created using GuardReel. We do not claim any rights to your content. Your recordings are stored on your device and, if you choose to connect a cloud service, in your own cloud storage account. GuardReel never has access to your content on any server we operate.
5. Cloud Storage
When you connect a cloud storage service (Dropbox or Google Drive), your recordings are uploaded directly from your device to your own account on that service. Your use of those services is governed by their respective terms of service and privacy policies. GuardReel is not responsible for the availability, security, or terms of any third-party cloud service.
6. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use GuardReel to:
- Violate any applicable law, regulation, or third-party rights
- Record individuals without required consent
- Engage in stalking, harassment, or surveillance in violation of applicable law
- Record in locations where recording is prohibited (e.g., certain government buildings, private property where recording is disallowed)
7. Limitation of Liability
GuardReel is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, GuardReel and its developers shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of recordings, or inability to record.
In particular, GuardReel does not guarantee that:
- Recordings will be successfully saved or uploaded in all circumstances
- The App will function without interruption or errors
- Cloud uploads will complete before the device is powered off or loses connectivity
- Recordings will be admissible as evidence in any legal proceeding
8. No Legal Advice
Nothing in the App, on this website, or in any communication from GuardReel constitutes legal advice. If you have questions about recording laws in your jurisdiction, consult a qualified attorney.
9. Modifications
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms.
10. Termination
You may stop using GuardReel at any time by deleting the App from your device. Upon deletion, all locally stored recordings and app data are removed. Recordings previously uploaded to your cloud storage remain in your cloud account and must be managed by you directly.
11. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.
